Cannot be found?
If you are unable to find your deposit protection, it does not necessarily mean that your deposit is not protected. Your deposit may be protected with another scheme.

In Northern Ireland there are two other deposit protection schemes. We suggest you check with them:

If you still cannot find your deposit:
- you, or your landlord or agent, may have entered the details incorrectly. Please check and enter them again
- your deposit may not have been processed yet by mydeposits Northern Ireland

End of tenancy
When you’re coming to the end of your tenancy, talk to your landlord or agent to agree an end date and discuss the deposit return. They will probably arrange for an inspection after you leave to check the condition of the property.
Request deposit
You will need to formally request for the deposit to be returned to you and allow 10 calendar days for their response. However, they do not need to return the deposit within this timeframe.
Agree amount
Your landlord or agent may ask to keep some, or all, of your original tenancy deposit to cover things like cleaning or damage. You can either agree, negotiate or disagree with this amount.
Deposit release
There are two ways to release a deposit depending on the way your landlord or agent has chosen to protect it.
- If the deposit is protected in our insured scheme, once you have agreed how much of the deposit will be returned to you, you should discuss how and when the money will be returned
- If the deposit is protected in our custodial scheme, you can log into your online account and request the amount to be returned

If you are unable to agree on how much of the deposit is being refunded to you, our free dispute resolution service is available, if all parties agree to use it.
