my|deposits Northern Ireland is to offer a number of half price deposit protection fees in April to encourage early adoption of the new legislation.
Landlords and letting agents in Northern Ireland who pre-register with the my|deposits Northern Ireland insurance based model* before the 1st April will qualify to register up to 10 deposit protections at half the published price during April. This could mean a potential saving of up to £75 for landlords and £180 for letting agents.
From the 1st April, all landlords and letting agents in Northern Ireland who take a deposit from their tenants will be required to protect it within a government-licenced scheme, such as my|deposits Northern Ireland.
The scheme has today launched its new website to support landlords and letting agents get started with deposit protection and register with the scheme. It provides key information and resources about the new law and their responsibilities and contains a dedicated tenants’ area with important information about their rights and what to expect from their landlord or letting agent.
To further support letting agents, landlords and tenants through the introduction of deposit protection, my|deposits Northern Ireland will also be hosting a registration workshop in Belfast. The event, to be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, Belfast on Wednesday 27 March from 2.30pm, will include a deposit protection surgery from the my|deposits Northern Ireland team and will provide key information on how to comply with the new law.
Eddie Hooker, Chief Executive, my|deposits Northern Ireland, said:
“Deposit protection under a week away so landlords and letting agents must make sure they are fully prepared for the changes.
“We hope that the workshop and the promotional offers we’ve introduced in April will encourage landlord and agents to engage with the legislation now. Failure to comply with the new law could mean heavy penalties as a consequence.
“my|deposits Northern Ireland is here to help everyone with deposit protection and the new website contains key information, advice and guidance for landlords, letting agents and tenants.
“The new legislation presents a huge learning curve, so visit www.mydepositsni.co.uk to see how we can support you in getting to grips with deposit protection”.
Landlords and letting agents wishing to register their first 10 deposits for half price should visit www.mydepositsni.co.uk and fill out the registration form before the 1st April.
The registration workshop will take place on Wednesday 27 March at the Ramada, Belfast, from 2.30pm. To attend, or for more information, visit the my|deposits Northern Ireland website.
*The my|deposits Northern Ireland Custodial Scheme is free to protect deposits.
