Housing Rights is a Belfast-based charity that provides housing advice, advocacy, and representation for those in need of support with housing-related issues in Northern Ireland. The charity’s mission is to address housing problems in Northern Ireland to tackle the issue of homelessness.
Housing Rights is currently piloting Northern Ireland’s first housing mediation service for the private rented sector. They will serve as an independent mediator that offers specialist housing knowledge to help parties resolve their disputes and reach to a solution that works for everyone.
The Housing Mediation Service will be free to use and accessible to all types of parties in the private rented sector. The types of parties that can use the service includes tenants, registered landlords, letting agents, and housing associations operating within the sector.
The Housing Meditation Service is intended to support parties with resolving disputes relating to:
- Property standards and repairs
- Landlord’s Right of Entry
- Rent and arrears
- Unprotected tenancy deposits
- Breach of tenancy terms
- Anti-social behaviour complaints
